A Night with the Ansar Fundraiser Dinner ---November 21, 2009
The Ansar Pantry is a subsidiary of MILA (Muslims Intent on Learning and Activism) a grassroots Denver organization operating since 2002 focused on community service, interfaith dialogue, and education. The Pantry is a collaborative effort started in 2005 with Metro CareRing (MCR), which has a long history of
operation in central Denver. MCR is our partner and also our 501c3 fiscal sponsor. It is located on Colfax Avenue in Aurora, Colorado
This year the Ansar Pantry has served nearly 2,000 families. Approximately 1/5 of our clients are homeless. The remainder of our clients are people who are either unemployed and are no longer able to feed themselves or are employed but just cannot make ends meet. Of the clients we see, 90% of them have children, who are the largest group of hungry people in our community. When clients come to The Ansar Pantry, they are given food that should last them between 3 to 5 days, bus tokens to help them get home with their food, and items such as deodorant, toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, diapers and other personal hygiene products. On Saturday, September 26th, 2009, alone, The Ansar Pantry served 69 families within 2 ½ hours.
The Ansar Pantry is operated entirely by volunteers, so there are no administrative personnel costs. 100% of donations are used to enable The Ansar Pantry to help clients — nothing else. Our ability to continue to serve those in our community who need help depends on volunteerism and generous donations from corporations and individuals.
A Night with the Ansar is our most important fundraiser, and unlike conventional fundraisers you will find this event both educational and inspirational. The fundraiser will be on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Maggianos’ Little Italy restaurant in downtown Denver from 6 - 9pm. It is a day when we get educated and honor our volunteers and donors. Our keynote speaker is the venerable Dr. Jamal Badawi an eminent scholar and champion of interfaith dialogue. He will be speaking on the topic of, “Conversations among the Abrahamic faiths". These are prepaid tickets. NO WALK INs.
We would truly appreciate your support for our fundraiser. You will be in good company and participate in helping a child, a single mother or a family in need to survive this winter in these trying times. Support can be given through either corporate or individual monetary donations, purchase of event tickets, or in-kind gifts which will be auctioned at the silent auction to precede the dinner. All donations are tax deductible.
We hope you will join our growing list of supporters of the mission of The Ansar pantry; to not only serve people with dignity but to empower them. Please consider donating to help support the work of The Ansar Pantry.
